Ethernet network card troubles
Hello.
A friend has got a Ethernet network card installed that he borrowed from a friend who doesn't need it. The problem is that it works just find in his windows 98 OS partition but it won't install the drivers in the windows xp OS partition. Oh and we would stick to windows 98 if windows xp wasn't NTFS and if you don't know, windows 98 can't read NTFS file system.
The card works fine in my computer thats running Windows XP but not his. The error he gets is: There was a problem installing this hardware Ethernet controller. The Data is invalid.
The network card is Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI fast Ethernet NIC
We've tryed new drivers etc
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
regards,
Ian

Hi!
What is written in Your device manager? - Does it see the ethernet card or not? - check also in the network neighbourhood.

In Device Manager it has under Network adapters:
1394 net adapter
Under other devices it has:
Ethernet controller with an approstrafy
Nothing under network nabourhood
When the card worked correctly on my computer under device manager it just said:
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI fast Ethernet NIC

Try deleting this entries.
Then, without restarting close device manager.
Sorry, but I'm not sure You'll have exactly the same names, because I must translate into English:
Run add new hardware from control panel.
Tell comp that you want to choose hardware from the list. Choose ethernet cards and your one.
If You can't find Your card, get back and choose drivers (but using "add hardware" from control panel) from the disk (you said You have such - of course for winXP) and intall them.
Restart, check if there's correct card in device manager.
I'll also try searching for drivers to Your card, so if it doesn't help,
write, giving the name of your drivers you have and email if possible and I will send You some other ones.
Stebel.

OK!
These drivers simply MUST help You.
Remeber that before installing any, You can't have any ethernet card listed in the device manager .
Driver A
Driver B
Driver C
Personally I reccommend starting from A or B, as they're full installations, B - isn't.
Write if it works,
Stebel.
