Messed up System...
I have managed to get WIN95 back, but its this stripped down version with like no programs installed off the Master CDrom.
On top of this it tells me that modem is not there(which I am sure it really is), and there is no sound.(although I have a sound card)
I tried reinstalling and asking the WIN95 to look for my modem and sound card but it still says they are gone.
Help??

Dear Hacaloc,
I just reformatted my hard drive with the assistance of the tech at gateway. I had backed up my files and slowly deleted the files left. I then began reformatting. Funny about half way through my screen started to lock up, two hours later I was told I had to start all over. There is a sequence to the formatting. I was prompted to put printer files in, wrong.
Try to find out it the sequence has something to do with your system not working. Good luck. I really like this format. Now if I could just get my e-mail
Good luck Martha

Hi Guys - please post what kind of comp you
have and what happened to make you
reload windows?
Right now I've no idea what might be
wrong, usually win95 / 98 will complain
if there are conflicts in Device manager
or there is a problem in BIOS or on the HSD
especially the BOOT sector - ie you've
not got the correct command.com or something like that.
All of these problems can be solved -
so post as msuch info as you
can to get help.
Device manager
Device Manger is the properties of My Computer. R Click My Computer.
GO to the page Device Manager
Check the devices, make sure it lists your stuff - if it has 3 hard drives and you've only got one then Remove 2. Same applies to Sound Cards.
Reinstalling
It is a good idea to slow a Computer down
during installs if you can.
Please don't email us
unless you are really desperate
we can help via phone but
you'll need to prearrange
by email. Phone support
is the only option
when you crash. This is a
subscription service.

havelok,
If your modem and/or sound card is not a plug & play PNP, then you have to install them manually.
1st Modem: Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel, then to Add New Hardware
Hit NEXT
Hit NO
Click on the Modem Icon
Don't let it select your modem
On the left panel find your modem's brand
On the right panel find your modem
If it is not listed then just say Have Disk, hope you have the modem drivers on a floppy, then point it to the Floppy Drive with your files on it.
Then go back into the control panel and click on the Modem Icon, then on diagnostic then hit More Info Button, if the Modem is installed properly, it will find it talk to it and send back some info in the White Box.
2nd: Same thing with Sound Card, Except Click on Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Try playing a Wave file to see if it works.
You may have to reboot for the sound card.
Murf
PS: Martha, you don't need a Tech, stay around in the forum and you will learn everything ya needs to know...
