bootup problems...... please suggest any solutions

Hello all. My computer has been running fine before but my problem has started recently. I have Win 95 installed and I have problems when I power up my computer. The problem is when I turn on the PC, the display does not initialize. My monitor remains on the energy saving mode (orange light)without powering up. In order for me to get the computer initialize the display, i have to turn the computer on and off numerous times before the monitor gets out of the energy savings mode (green light) and then the speaker beeps and does the ram test. My system is comprised of an ABIT BH6 motherboard, ATI xpert@play video card, monster 3d 4 mb video card and a Viewsonic Optiquest 1769 DC monitor. I checked all of the connections and I played with the bios settings like turning off energy savings mode but nothing has fixed the problem. I dont understand why this problem just came up since it hasnt done this before but if this problem sounds familiar to you, I would appreciate if you could suggest any solutions to fix this up.

Howdy, Well you most likely have a bad monitor or a bum video card.

Hi,

It can be the bad monitor or video card as Kevin suggested, but check also your power swtich and power unit. As I understand when your monitor not want to wake up, you not hear any beeps also. But usually, if you have bad video card or monitor, BIOS must emit 3 short beeps. When your monitor not initialize did the fan of the power supply unit is rotating? And did the lights on the computer case are lit? If not then the power supply unit is not really powered up (because of bad switch) or just going bad.

thank you for your input. I will test out the monitor and the video card for any flaws. Aside from that being the problem, would you say that the bios settings may be the main factor causing this problem. The reason I say this is because I usually play around with the bios settings to look for optimal settings. Which setting would you say is directed to the monitor or video display initializing?

I have also seen this on a failing motherboard, moved all components to new board, problem gone. And on an earlier pentium board that was using a specific caching SCSI controller. The controller was responding to a poll at an address reserved for an on board peripheral (though disabled) Since the POST was expecting a different response, the process was halted.
Since you don't hear any beeps or drive hits (floppy) it would be safe that the computer has hung.
