    Ghosting

I am setting up Ghost on my Win98 (Justification for being here!) machine. When I select Ghost.exe I get the full GUI and options. However, I am reading some instructions that quote: “create a bootable floppy on each partition and drop Ghost.exe and Ghost.env yada, yada, yada… if the environment file (.env) is not there it don’t work”

    Any ideas>?

    Hi Drbass,

Yes, you'll want to create a bootable floppy that also contains those two Ghost files. All of your "Ghosting" will be done when booted to DOS. Enjoy the power of Ghost!

    Happy computing!

Sorry I didn't explain myself properly, I can't find Ghost.env, only the .exe and therefore, was wondering if it was necessary? As i wrote up top, I can get the GUI no worries and all menus. went into DOS and searched for ghost.env and couldn't find it there.

The .env file is normally what enables ghost to run. Think of it as the license.

Some OEM versions don't need one. But then you probably won't be able to upgrade that version.

Thanks for the help again. I presume then that I can go ahead implementing the backup procedure just using Ghost.exe?

    Yes, if it will run.

Are you using the ghostro.exe you found or another ghost.exe.

If you find a version number on the GUI, you may want to post that.

It is Ghostro.exe Ren and it runs no worries. I’ve got the bonnet up on the hood (Australian for -- the car engine cover up) of the computers at the moment and I’m reduced to Ol’Faithful (486 16MB RAM) that is driving me crazy as it is so slow. But I’ll get back with the version # in 24.

    Thanks so much again

Then that is consistent with the OEM version I have.

Some of those are older, and the reason you may want to be aware of the version number, is that you may want the functionality of another version at some point.

BTW, I'm upgrading an Intel Machine to a 200 MMX so I can play with the Penguin. Don't go far.
