speeding up the computer
I have recently purchased a notebook which has Windows 8 installed. To start with, the first couple of weeks, it was extremely fast at its processing and loading pages, but now it has slowed down considerably. What can I do to speed it up please? I have MS Security Essentials and Lavasoft running, no Nortons, and I have set my computer to delete all temp files on shut down. Is there a freebie that can speed it up, or what do you suggest.
Thanks

Internet temp files for sites you visit all the time are a good thing which helps make pages load faster
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Thanks Steve, your comments make sense, but I was always told to delete them so that is the way I set them. Will give it a go without deleting.

Both of those are scanning web pages. Might consider disabling Lavasoft and see if that makes any difference.

Once a week or, I clean out the Internet temp files. And the fact Windows does not clean it out worth a hoot, I use TFC

Would not be surprised if it found a couple gig of garbage on your laptop.

No. He means from the first post. If that is Ad-Aware, I would just uninstall it. It has long since past its prime.

Ad-Aware
Free and fast antivirus with our legendary anti-spyware
Your complete line-of-defense against malware and cyber threats. Feature packed, lean and powerful anti-malware solution, without the conflicts or slow-downs typically associated with running multiple security programs.
2 antivirus programs, probably fighting each other, surprised it even boots up.
I agree with Midknyte, uninstall it.

Yeah, that's where I was going. IMO, Ad-Aware has NO value what so ever...
