I bought a printer server to connect my USB printer to the network. Everything works out fine. I am just curious about one thing. When adding the printer in the computer, the printer server's manual said to add it as a LOCAL printer instead of a network printer. At first I thought it was a misprint so I downloaded manuals for other printer servers to check. They all said to select local instead of network printer. Just wonder why. Isn't it true that using a printer server turns the printer into a network printer? If so, then why would I select it as a local printer?

Yes, you typically want to use a Local with TCPIP port instead of Network.

If you don't install as Local, then the available options are different. If installed as Network, the sharing options would be disabled as well as some of the optional functionality. For example, the Advanced tab is grayed out on my Xerox printer if installed as Network.
