Prevent Showing Address In The Status Bar While Hovering A Link
How can I prevent showing the web address in the status bar at the bottom of the screen of IE 9 while hovering over a link on a webpage? This is annoying and distracting to me.
Sometimes it displays "javascript" too while the cursor is over something.
I like software that isn't constantly "in my face".
I checked the IE, Tools, Internet Options and don't see anything that prevents this.
Anyone know of a registry setting or something for this?
Even when the status bar is unchecked in View, Toolbars... it still appears.
Thanks

It's in the same place as it was in IE8, right-click a blank spot at the top of the browser and deselect Status Bar.

Deselecting status bar still shows the links (as pop-ups at the bottom).
But isn't this a safety thing? If you do find a way to turn this off, won't it also be off in email, and that could pose a risk for fake sites? i.e., one of the ways to determine legit links is to make sure what shows up in the link at the bottom matches where the link says it is for.

That's true. We have IE8 at work, and with IE8, deselecting status bar does not show any pop-ups at the bottom. My only guess is that they added this pop-up even when status bar is hidden in IE9 possibly for safer browsing reasons.

Ya well i can see where not seeing the address below MIGHT cause some inexperienced users a headache.. But you should be able to disable that somehow..
I wonder if you could DISABLE POP-UP DESCRIPTIONS somehow?

Thanks everyone....I tried it... the Pop-Up Descriptions fix within Windows Explorer folder options, but it doesn't seem to work for Internet Explorer 9 while hovering the mouse over a link.

Drag the whole IE window down to where the pop up is behind the windows task bar
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
