Did you try Startup Repair? It's the topmost option on the same screen with the Safe mode option.
- Turn the computer off and wait 10 seconds
- Turn the computer back on and start slowly tapping the [F8] key
- A black screen with white text will come up
- Use the Up|Down arrow keys to select "Repair Your Computer" and press [Enter]
- On the next screen it'll ask which type of keyboard, click the Next> button
- If you have a Windows password, type it in on the next screen and click OK
- Click the "Startup Repair" link and follow the onscreen instructions
(If it gives you the option of doing a Windows "System Restore" you might want to try it) - When it's done, cross your fingers and click Restart
