    Firefox Add-on

I just came across and installed a firefox add-on called noscript. I know some websites will not work unless scripts are enabled. It blocks all scripts on all websites unless you add it to the whitelist. How come after adding some websites to the whitelist to enable all scripts, the website is still not fully functional? These websites worked fine prior to installing noscript using the firefox browser so I shouldn't need to install any other program. Is there another setting in noscript that I may be not familiar with that I need to check to completely make a website 100% functional after adding it to whitelist?

The one webiste is saying that I need to install adobe getflashplayer which prior to installing noscript it didn't say that I need this program. I assume I have this program installed since the website worked fine before. I guess I need to reinstall this getflashplayer so it works fine using noscript?

I clicked on the getflashplayer link and installed it. It said adobe flash player 10 installation complete. I reopened the firefox browser and went to that website again and it still says that I need to install that program. Does this happen to anyone else that is using noscrip add-on?

When I click on the noscript "s" icon in the bottom right of the browser, there is an option that says allow all of this page. After I clicked on that option, it now works. My first question is how come it asked me if I want to allow this page when the website was already added and listed in the whitelist? Shouldn't adding a website to that list allow the entire website every time you visit it? Second, after clicking the noscript "s" icon at bottom right, there is an option if I want to allow this page for every page I click on under that website. Doesn't adding a website to whitelist eliminate the need to keep clicking allow this page for every page?

I have used NoScript for 2 or 3 years (maybe more??) It's one thing that if used correctly, can make Firefox much safer than it is out of the box. As you note, NoScript functions using domain/site whitelisting. Anything not on the list is considered unsafe. And IMO, whitelisting is one of the best ways to stay safe on the web.

As to why you encountered your issue, NoScript has several Firefox plugins it can control besides JavaScript (script.) These include Java (not the same as script), Flash, Silverlight and other active content plugins. If a site is not whitelisted for (script), these plugins are also blocked. (There is more to NoScript than this but that's for another discussion.)

So, when you allowed "All on this page", you also allowed Flash to run. You had obviously had Flash before (this is why the page worked before) so the second installation wasn't necessary. But at least you now have the latest version...

HAN has given a good over view I will add this comment:
NoScript is an eye opener when browsing sites, you quickly notice the number of sites that are mixtures of "Scripts" from many other sites.

If a page has embedded video, these are typically flash based (script) and hosted on another site to the page you are visiting.
Some sites use fancy buttons, these will be scripted by using Java or JS, and the number of times the scripts call data from a 3rd party site. a quick look at this page I note that we have to allow five different sources.. only 2 are directly related to VDr .. (Virtualdr.com and internet.com)

About the most frustrating thing with NoScripts is when you hit a page with 20 or 30 script sources (without counting the obligatory Google, double click and Advertisers) deciding what to enable and leave disabled some times is confusing.
Also some updates of NoScripts can leave you WhiteList partially or fully cleared.
It is rare to need to "allow all this page" , patients when getting used to the addon will help you get around many of these issues and help you to avoid the bad advertisements... and dangerous scripts.

Indeed HAN,any browser is much safer w/o scripts and blocking of new active-x controls!

Han and Und3rtak3r, I appreciate the detailed overview of noscripts but, I am still confused.

First, I still must click on allow all of this page for a page to function fully even if it is in my whitelist? Und3rtak3r, I know you said > "It is rare to need to "allow all this page" , patients when getting used to the addon will help you get around many of these issues and help you to avoid the bad advertisements... and dangerous scripts."< How can I avoid clicking on allow all of this page and still have a webpage function fully?

Second, I noticed that sometimes when I click on the back or forward arrow to change pages on a website, I have to click it twice before the webpage goes either back or forward to the other page. This only began occurring since I installed and started using noscripts. Why does this happen?

Third, I have to click on the video twice to play on some websites that have video on them. For example, when I click on a video on youtube.com, the video has an f in the middle and I have to click the video again for it to play. Is there a way around this that I don't have to click it twice every time I want to play a youtube video?

Fourth, I have "show messages about blocked scripts at bottom of page" checked in options temporarily. I am not sure how to interrupt these messages. For example, youtube.com is in my whitelist. The message at the bottom for youtube after clicking on a video says scripts partially allowed, 1/3 (youtube.com) <script>: 19 <object>: 1. What does this mean?

Firth, Und3rtak3r, you said> "Some sites use fancy buttons, these will be scripted by using Java or JS, and the number of times the scripts call data from a 3rd party site. a quick look at this page I note that we have to allow five different sources.. only 2 are directly related to VDr .. (Virtualdr.com and internet.com)"> Where can you find this information when using noscripts?

I apologize for all the questions but this is confusing to me.
