    image viewer

Anyone know of a FastStone type image viewer for OS 10.4. It is for viewing images on our NAS; so far picasa is the best I can find. Thanks for any input.

Sorry for the delay, but I've been searching and searching for something to give you as a positive answer. Since I'm not a Mac user, this took some time before I found one like the Faststone I use on my PC. And the only one I could find that is similar and works on Macs is this one:

And if that isn't what you want here are two more:

    Xee

    Xsee

Personally looking at the screenshots on XnView, I like that it is similar to Faststone in its layout, anyway.

Thanks for the replies. The MacBook is my wife's, and she is by no means a power user of any sort, so ease of use is a must. All the other pc's/notebooks on our home network run win7. I really am not liking the Mac, it continually gives me grief on different things we try and do with it. It seems that getting it to do things anywhere near as well and as easy as the win7 machines is a difficult task. The newer OS Mac's are probably a lot better, but that is not going to happen. When this MacBook dies, it will be replaced by a win7 derivative.
I have tried Xsee, but have not tried xnview; will give it a go when I get a chance.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

I used to be a Mac user, that was many moons ago and like you I found that on my PC I could do things a lot better and a lot simpler. Besides back when I had mine, software and hardware were always more expensive than the PC versions. Some software made for the PC and converted to work on a Mac just didn't, work.

And you're welcome for the help. I may get other answers for you later, just have to wait and see. I actually asked this question on my photography site where a lot of the photographers use Macs.

I agree. I don't mean any disrespect to Mac users in this thread, but the one we have is simply no competition for win7 pc's. There is so much more software available for the win7 pc's that are free/paid, like FastStone image viewer and the like. At least with my new router the Mac book doesn't randomly lose connection like it did with the last. It is nice to have the freedom to use whatever we like.

Well I've got xnview on my wife's MacBook, but now it is not behaving connecting to the NAS. Hopefully I can get that rectified to see how xnview works viewing the images stored there. When I have time that is.

xnview beta works ok, but picasa3 works very well; guess she'll be sticking with that app for now.

I guess whatever works, is what you would use. I never liked Picasa so went with Irfanview first, then finally two years ago was told about FastStone and haven't looked back.

I don't have picasa on any of my win7 pc's. I, like you used to use Irfanview and went to FastStone and haven't looked back either. Since neither of those is availble for my wife's MacBook, picasa will do for now.
