Curious question about All-in-one printers Epson Nx125

Hi all, Target is advertising the NX125 for $29....so I went online to look at the price of the ink -- $43 for a combo....and you buy one black and about 4 colors....
Just curious, is this why the all-in-ones are selling so cheap? Because of the cost of the ink?

But the cost of the ink is usually for individual cartridges. You wouldn't use all of, all the colors, at one time. I have used and still use Epson printers. Since they started making them with individual color cartridges, I use more light cyan than I do other colors. Mine has 5 colors and one black. This way you replace only what you've used up.

I expect that is a old model and they want to get it off the shelf.
Might want to check the others out.

But Photolady, the issue with that is if one ink runs out, the machine won't operate without a replacement. I'm using a HP and it only requires two ink cartridges: black and color.
I sure would like all-in-one, but can't afford 4 ink cartridges vs. 2.

Mine isn't an all in one, it's an Epson photo wide format printer.

But I bet if either of your cartridges run out, the printer won't print either. How much is the cost of your color cartridge? My individual cartridges are only $13.

$17 for the black and $13 each for the 3 colors.

And I think you will be pleasantly surprised as to how long the Cartridges last.

Epson C88+ is what I use and print a rather large number of graphics.

All vendors sell low end ink jets for little profit. They make money on the ink.

However, this model is also a special deal between Epson and Target. It is not available at other retailers.

Re multi-color versus single color cartridges; with multi-color you always throw away some ink. All the colors do not run out at the same time. Single color cartridges will nearly always be cheaper per print.

This model uses individual cartridges, 3 colors plus black. They sell ink sets but you can buy one ink at a time.

Looks like a good deal to me.

Ditto what Jerry said. What he said was what I was trying to explain.

I'll bet this is a loss-leader for Target. They are selling it at close to what they paid Epson. When you add in the cost of advertising/promotion they may be losing money on each sale. For retailers, the name of the game is get customers in the store. Most of the people who buy the Epson will also buy toothpaste, shoes for the kids, a couple of CDs, ...
