The same ones I use. K-Lite.

And I download the Standard pack. You shouldn't need the full version as it includes the player you don't need or want.

I just installed those codecs on my Windows 7 computer. At that option, I chose the top one. As you see there, it says on the bottom one "not recommended". In the next window it shows you two checkable boxes. One for Classic and one for Windows Media Player. Check the second one.

    Question

ok i went tio the next window and saw the windows media player, but what about those first 2 boxes on the first page i showed here, is the top one to be checked or leave it unchecked?

Probably a new video card would help. Onboard video was never any good for anything except reading emails. Not good for seeing movies on WMP.

I guess you missed the part of my post where I said I checked the top box that shows in your attachment. The bottom one has a warning about that not being recommended to check that one.

The context of that message is rather subject to "run at your own risk" it seemed, maybe i just don't understand it.

All addon software you use would be this type of problem if that's all you did was worry about what you're saying. I have used K-Lite codecs for years and never had a problem with using them. Others, other techs here use them as well, and I've never heard of them having problems either.

We've always touted that onboard video is fine if all you do is simple tasks, but a standalone card is better in the long run. I've only had one computer that had onboard video and that was Mac.

here are a few of the screen shots you asked for in your pm,, i won't add them all unless you want, you can see there are checks in a lot of them but you uncheck all but 3 i think you said?
    eg

this is only for wmp not classic,, so how many are left checked- removed or added?

Evidently, I messed up trying to tell you what I had checked. The only thing I changed was, I checked the first box in the first window I saw about decoders. I checked the box for WMP, not classic. And one what files it should open, I checked mp3. Screenshots 1, 2, 3, I left as default settings. Screenshot 4, I did the install, on screenshot 5, I checked "create a restore point before installation and unchecked "visit web for update and news."

Anything else was set as default and finished the install. I don't get that paranoid when installing software, especially, software I've installed and used before, or software recommended from techs here at VDR.

The luck i've had lately, i get more suspect all the time, on win vista "certified" i had to inform them they had a product on there that dis not function as stated,, consequently the next day it was off the site.
to bad i can't list them all at once
