Defrag drive
Recently, I built a new system and use win xp pro. I use Perfectdisk 6 to defrag my drive. I just checked each partition to perform an offline defrag of the system and paging files. It does this during the bootup process before it boots back into windows. I used this program on my old system that had win 2k pro. When it performed this task, I would see it performing it on my screen during the bootup before it finished booting back into windows. This was the first time I did an offline defrag on my new system with win xp pro. It didn't look like it performed this offline defrag because I didn't see anything on my screen during the bootup. It looked like it just booted up into windows like normal. Does anyone use this program and/or know what could be wrong?

PD6 is so OLD. Instead of fussing with that, try something like Defraggler or MyDefrag for FREE.

Perfectdisk 8 does a better job.
Have updated 6? If i remember right the update was 7.
Open 6 go to Help and select Check for update.

PD is up to version 10 already. That's how old 6 is.
I'd at least try MyDefrag before spending money.

MyDefrag is excellent. It's speedy and offers many options if you wish to tweak your drive. (I use the Optimize Weekly algorithm. I run it once a month or so.)

I downloaded and tried defraggler. At the end after running defraggler, it said 0% fragmented. Right after I ran defraggler I ran perfectdisk and it said I have 2% fragmented.
My questions:
Can you really know which defrag program does a better job? There isn't a way to really check to see which one does a better job?
Perfectdisk would perform a defrag on my system and paging files during the bootup into windows. Does defraggler or mydefrag defrag such files?

Defraggler is more user-friendly, but even 2% won't make a noticeable difference.
MyDefrag is better, but a bit more complicated. Check out their FAQ and forum. MyDefragGUI helps.

As for your pagefile question:

It's hard to do a head to head comparison. You can try this site for a start.

The latest versions of MyDefrag now offer a basic GUI built-in. And when one chooses an action option, the GUI now gives a basic review of what the option does. IMO, you really don't need an add-on GUI anymore. I know I stopped using one...
