[RESOLVED] Microsoft Works Suite 2000 question

Hi All, ........... This Works Suite may be too old for reasonable answer. Recently I had need of a Word Processor program and dragged out my seven CD issue of the 2000 suite. I seem to recall using the Word Processor with the extension .wks . Where is the word processor on these CDs?

Pop in the first one and see if you get an install menu to only select what you want.

If it's Works Suite, and not plain Works, then it will use MS Word (probably Word 2000) as the word processor. The .wks extension was for the cut-down word processor that shipped with plain Works.

However, if you just want to open a .wks file, the any version of Word should be able to open it - it looks like my Word 2007 can.

Office 2000 with the update can open about anything.

Originally I was having a problem with MS Word, part of MS Office installed on my computer. That's fixed now. But to get back to your replies, I have always used a "Custom Install" and still have MS Money from the Works Suite 2000 as one of the programs I use periodically. Apparently I was mistaken about the name of the Word Processor included In the MS Works Suite and it probably is MS Word. My recollection of that program was that it was much simpler than the present day Word and was called by a name other than Word. Maybe the quote below from a Googled site indicates that I'm not having too many senior moments.

"Microsoft Works comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, calendar and database as core features."

Whether the word processor is MS Word or not is academic now since I have not been able to find any other word processor on the Suite CDs.

At this point in time, when there are excellent, up-to-date, free alternatives, I would never advise loading anything that old. Open Office is free and is able to open all the major file formats. http://www.openoffice.org/

HAN, ............ In my preliminary investigations for a substitute word processor I did install Open Office. Also, I did come across references to AbiWord. I'll take a look at it now . Thank you for the input.
