    Resolved [RESOLVED] No clipboard...need one.!

I was needing to post a picture of something from my system to get some help with and I discovered that clipboard/clipbook is not to be found. I looked under system 32 where it was supposed to be but it's not there. I did a search for it and it's just not available.??

    Any ideas how it disappeared?

Is it on the install cd?

I also googled replacement for clipboard and got lots of different programs. So..which replacement program would ya'll recommend? I like the idea of being able to save several "copy" functions.

    Okay...I did a run/services.msc.

that opened clipboard ( it wasn't under "system 32"..??)...and I copied the desktop where I had the two pages that I need help explaining.

But...under "edit". the copy & paste functions are greyed out...??

I downloaded Clipmagic and tried to use that,so I copied the info, but when I tried to paste the info here, the paste option was also greyed out.

Is there something real simple that I missed?

Broni...the copy function is active, but wherever I try to send it ( a folder in "My Docs", a new folder on desktop, here in a reply...), the paste is greyed out.

I can, however, use the "save as" to successfully get it to go to another folder.

Now...is there any other way to get a screen shot posted here besides using clipboard? I'm refering to any other way within desktop? ( I know about photobucket...etc).

This seems like such a beginner's question....but I freely admit to being a beginner in many areas.... !

Edit: the copy function is greyed out in clipboard...not in clipmagic....wanted to clarify that.

It's been a long day....too tired to wrestle with this anymore today. Maybe I should just get one of the other clipboard type programs and not mess with this problem anymore.

You ready? Try it like this:
    1. Get whatever you want on the screen and then press [Alt-PrtScn] to capture the active window, or, or press just the [PrtScn] key if you want to capture the entire screen.

    2. Click Start | Run, type in mspaint and press [Enter].

    3. Press [Ctrl-V] (or click Edit | Paste) to paste the captured image into MSPaint.

    4. Click File | Save As...,

    5. Click the "Desktop" icon on the left,

    6. Type in a filename in the "File name:" box,

    7. Select "JPEG" in the "Save as type:" box,

    8. Click the "Save" button.

    9. Close MSPaint.

    10. Start a reply to this thread by clicking the "Post Reply" button. (There is one at top left of the thread, and another at the bottom on the left).

    11. Scroll down below where you post your reply to the "Additional Options" section and click the "Manage Attachments" link.

    12. Click the "Browse" button.

    13. Click the "Desktop" icon on the left.

    14. In the right pane, click once on the filename you just saved there and then click the "Open" button.

    15. Click the "Upload" button, (way over to the right of the "Browse" button you clicked just a minute ago).

    16. Wait a minute for the file to upload to VirtualDr and then click the "Close this window" button.

    17. Type in whatever you like in the "Reply to Thread" > "Message:" box.

    18. And finally, click the "Submit Reply" button.

Thanks, SpywareDr.....I thought that somewhere I had heard about using Paint and tried Paint...but...I didn't use the procedures correctly, and had forgotten how to use the options at the bottom of the reply window.... I rarely need to paste a screen shot here so I am just not that familiar with the technique.

Thanks again for the instructions....I'll use them a little bit later.

Hmmm...not very clear. The new volume "F" is 3 GB with 2.91GB free space. It has the same info that Windows Explorer has when it is opened....

Anyone know how that might have gotten there?

Ahhh..I see that any attachments will go at the end of the post. Learning all the time...

Possibly a factory restore partition, (that used to be Hidden)?

What is the earliest date and time stamp of one of the directories (folders) on that drive? (Double-click "F:" to see).

SpywareDr....no..it's not any type of factory restore partition...the harddrive is an 80Gb that I installed and set up as a single partition.

There are no time stamps that I can find.

The new volume has the exact info that Windows Explorer has when you open it up, like it has been copied to a new volume, and no other info that is particular to just that new volume.

I think that I need to do away with it...but not sure how to go about it...could use some guidance. if I format the new volume wouldn't it just come back as a formatted volume? I need to get rid of the new volume altogether.

It is not causing any noticeable problems but I would like to know how it got there.

In your attachment above there is a "New Volume (F:)" highlighted on the right. When you click it, (drive F:), is there nothing listed in the right pane? (Maximize that window so you can see the details). For example, here's what I see in the right pane when I double-click the "DISE_BACKUP (E:)" on this computer:
The "PQIMAGE" folder was created on "05/24/2005 09:06 AM".

If you still don't see anything, use CHKDSK to find out when the partition itself was created. Click Start | Run, type in:
    cmd /k chkdsk f:
and press [Enter]. For example, here's what I see here when I run that command against this computer's drive E::
That second line tells me that "Volume DISE_BACKUP" was "created 05/24/2005 08:42 AM".

To get rid of your drive F: with Windows XP would require repartitioning the drive:
How to partition and format a hard disk by using Windows XP Setup program
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp
Warning: This will erase everything on the drive.

"Norton PartitionMagic™ 8.0" ($69.95 USD) can merge partitions:

SpywareDr...When I double click on the "F" volume icon, nothing shows up on the right side. It's when I click "explore" that the typical Explorer tree shows up on the right side.

Here is my chkdsk result...I didn't see any time stamp there, either.

I have Partition Magic...will just use it and merge partitions as you suggested.

    Okay...Homer Simpson...move over..I'm claiming your "DOH!!" title....!

I just realized what that new volume 'F" is....is my 2nd hard drive that has Ubuntu.

I didn't know that the second hard drive would show up in 'My computer' on the 1st hard drive.

The hard drives are completely separate...on separate sata ports...so I didn't expect to see any indication of the Ubuntu hard drive on the XP hard drive...

Can I assume that this is because the Bios is being accessed by my XP system and is reporting what hard drives are present?

I thought I had Partition Magic...I have the manual but the actual cd is only the back up cd ( Acronis True Image 9.0 )When I installed it, there was no option to merge partitions and that perplexed me.

I downloaded Easeus Partition Magic...free home edition...and it clearly showed that I had 2 hard drives and there it was....my small 3Gb partition on one of the drives...the Ubuntu hard drive..!!!

And I feel even more stupid....if I had just paid closer attention to what Disk Management was showing me, I would have seen on the left where it clearly shows Disk 0 ( myXP drive), and Disk 1 (my Ubuntu). How I missed that I just don't know...in too much of a hurry I suppose. My brain had convinced my eyes that there was something wrong going on and I couldn't see what was there all along....sheesshh!!

SpywareDr....thanks for showing me how to post screenshots..need to practice, practice, practice that...and I hope that I didn't waste too much of your time with my "make believe problem"...!!

If I may, as a related question about screen shots. How do you get the screen shot to appear as a picture in the post instead of the attachment?

I really enjoy building systems and basic troubleshooting of hardware...but a lot of the simple "how to" stuff I'm still in Windows 101 class.

We post the picture to a website and link it in.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing [img] before the URL and [/img] after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image.
