    Password Protect the "My Computer" Icon

    Does anyone know of a way to password protect the "My Computer" icon in Windows Xp?

    Not that I'm aware of. There are probably a half dozen other ways to reach everything it has access to anyway. IOW, password protecting it would not block users from access to the PC...

    Yup, it wouldn't do you any good, there are zillions of ways of getting into My Computer/Windows Explorer, and that's wi6thout the 3rd party apps that will do the same thing. What is it exactly that you are trying to stop someone from doing?

    WinGuard Pro 2008 v6.6 says it can "Password Protect Windows Explorer"

    If it's just control panel you want to disable you could create two registry files ... one to disable and then one to re-enable it.

    and hide the two reg files anywhere on the drive or encrypt them.
