Connecting to file server from the Mac
I have set up a network between my Dell PC with XP Home OS Service pack 2and my iMac with Leopard 10.5 OS. The PC is connected directly to the server and the Mac is connected via Airport to the server. I am able to connect to the server and share files from the Dell with the Mac but I am connected only as a guest. I am unable to connect to the server as a "registered user".
Can anyone help me to do this? Do I have to do this at the PC? Apple support says I have to go to the PC and "allow remote log-in" but they can't tell me how to do this since it is not an Apple! I find it strange that I can access files on the PC from the Mac as a guest but not as a registered user????
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Brian

Connecting to file server from the Mac
Hi Train,
It appears that you can only do this in XP Pro, whereas I have XP Home. There are some work-arounds that require changes to the registry and I'm reluctant to do this. I can still connect as a guest so I think I will stick with that even though I wonder why I can connect as a guest but not a registered user? There are also some third party packages that will do this.
Thanks much for your help,
Brian

Again where the Pro and Home version differences bite us.
Back up the registry
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/registry.htm
Maybe that will help out.
Understand the reluctance to modify the regs, but sooner or later most of us have to do something in there and that might be of assistance.
