Nero6 ScanDisc will not read data dvd
I've just burned a data dvd and afterwards checked with Nero ScanDisc (I am using latest version of NeroCD/DVDSpeed). It will not read this disk at all, hanging up with processor at 100%. I have burned hundreds of similar disks (same brand/type/general file content) and even re-burned this disk. All applications and my other dvd diagnostics software can read the dvd fine. ScanDisc can read my previous products. There seems no apparent explanation.
I checked the filenames on the dvd. A few were over 64 characters but I have a relaxation in Nero to allow Joliet names over that length. It so happened that two of the long filenames were at the very start of the disk. I don't have any paths over 255 characters and no trees over 8 deep.
Any ideas?

Is the DVD readable in Windows Explorer?
Nick.

SuperSparks, yes it's readable in Explorer, Directory Opus, ThumbsPlus, Isobuster, CD/DVD Diagnostics (which gives it the normal "good with a few soft errors"). It seems there is something it does not like about the disk, which is why I mentioned the burning relaxations. My previous disks would have had the same types of files and same deviations from ISO 9660. The disk title is the same length and format as previous.
When I scan my other disks, NeroCD/DVDSpeed briefly disappears then reappears and starts the scan. The file listing appears in the bottom box. With this disk, none of that happens. It hangs before the dialog disappears. It does it with both copies of the same compilation, in both of my dvd drives, and at read speeds less than, and including, maximum.
I am completely stumped. Fortunately the disk is perfectly usable.

I wouldn't worry too much about it then, if the disc is useable. My experience is that some of those Nero utilities can be a bit flaky, and it's more likely to be a problem with CD/DVD Speed than the disc I think.

Slow your burning speed a notch or two. Yes, it takes longer, but we need to give the burner time to get all the stufff burned properly.

After all the things you've done to sort it,I would say the road has come to an end. And the sign there says the Nero program is errored. So if it bothers you,re-install/repair Nero...

Train, I always burn at less than half max.
Ridgerunr, already reinstalled but no difference (it's a small standalone prog independent of main Nero progs).
SuperSparks, you're right although it would be nice to have an answer! Burned a disk today on my poorer quality burner and ScanDisc had no trouble with it. It's just the one disk.
Thanks all, Starman*

Rather interesting Starman99,,on the Nero site, looking under Products/Support/Downloads, I can find no reference to "Nero CD/DVD Speed". Also no reference for "Nero Scandisc" found.
Could you give a link to where we could look at these programs? Thanks

I can't find the page any more. I downloaded file NeroCDSpeed_4511.zip on the 4th June (contains CDSpeed.exe dated 30th Mar 06). Unfortunately my browser history is only 10 days. Looks like they revamped the site since then.
Added later: The prog is part of Nero Toolkit. I originally had the version in Nero6. The later version mentioned above is, I assume, what is now in Nero7. It was offered as a freebie to anyone on their site, together will all the other utilities.

Nero>Nero tool kit>Nero CD/DVD speed
Yep, it is there. Listed on the tab.

Never have used it and never had bothered with that Nero CD/DVD speed before now. Thanks for pointing it out.
