32-gb-barrier
hello all,
i bought a seagate 80gb hdd and it is only the first 32gb that are being seen by the bios it is an older PC with the following
FIC PA-2013 motherboard
bios --award modular v4.60pga version 1.15j138 7/29/1999
via VT82c598 apollo mvp3 -- northbridge
how complicated is it to get the BIOS to recognize the 80 gb hdd?
thanks john

1999
The first idea is to see it here is a BIOS upgrade thaht will allow the use of a hdd [hard drive] that large. But from that year , 1999, one might be found. But i would not bet on it.
The next idea, one that I use and recommend, is to use a ATA100/133 card.
Here is example of a ATA100 card
And here is a ATA133 card
They have their own bios that allows the moter board bios to use the full hdd. They do allow you to add 4 more ide devices.
The 3rd option and one I DO NOT RECOMMEND, is the manufactor of the hdd probably has a overlay for the hdd so your bios can use the full hdd size. But it there is one glitch to ever happen tot eh overlay, everything on the hdd will be lost!
