    JAVASCRIPT

    Acer Aspire 1410 notebook
    4 Gb RAM
Vista Home Premium solo core Centrino

Many times over a host of situations I go to download something and I notice "javascript" in the lower left-hand corner of the screen -- often this is the end of my ability to download -- I figure that java is extremely important since, in my 20 years of computer experience as a home user, I see it everywhere, but why does the above sitn I describe happen, and, more importantly, can I prevent it??

    THANKS

Well, in the first place, Java and JavaScript are two entirely different languages, with mostly different uses. But in order to diagnose the problem we would need more information such as what browser, and exactly what you're trying to do and where when you see this message. The probability is just that JavaScript may be disabled in your browser. If that's the case, it's a simple matter to enable it.

Well, as I mention in my post, it appears in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. The browsers in which I see it are IE7 and Google Chrome, and it most often appears when I'm trying to download...app, picture, movie, text...it doesn't discriminate.

    How to enable it?

    THANK YOU

You would go into tools >Internet options >security tab >custom level button >scroll nearly to the bottom and enable active scripting. That's for IE. I'm not sure how you do it in chrome. If that is already enabled, it may be your firewall or AV program causing the problem.
