Still having trouble after cleaning... GF's computer :P

I ran Spybot and Malware Bytes in Safe Mode w/ Networking. Something is blocking Malware Bytes from updating to most current definitions. I cleaned a half dozen things with SpyBot. Still having issues with a fake anti spyware program. It keeps me from running a lot of programs too, including task bar.

Are you not able to boot into normal mode at all?

I am able to boot to normal mode. But that is when I get porno popups and fake spyware removal program warnings. The infection even kept me from opening windows updates, but I kept trying and with some strategy and work arounds I eventually got updates to work (only had a few high priority updates). I'm also using safe mode to have better chances of success with spyware removal. The popups don't occur while I'm in safe mode. I'm going to download Lava Soft's Ad-Aware too and see if that helps any. Are there any other programs any of you would suggest trying? As I said before, I used Malware Bytes and Spybot. And obviously I have HiJack This, but I need help analyzing the log file.

Combofix listed below can be run in Safe Mode, if needed. Try normal mode, first.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
    • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

NOTE 1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
    • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

The infection would not allow me to run ComboFix in normal mode. So I went into SafeMode w/ Networking again to run it. But, there was a couple instances that looked like it needed administrator permissions and could not do what it needed to. Everything finished though and here is the log file for ComboFix. I will post the new HiJack log in the next post:

That's a lot of log files! Thanks in advance if you take the time to go through all of that! I appreciate the help you already gave me. I'm in normal mode right now and I haven't had a popup yet. So, THANKS!

How are the issues in normal mode now?

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Vista users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
    • Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :reg
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Svchost /s
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

I'm in normal mode right now and I haven't had a popup yet.
    Very good

NOTE (not malware related). Combofix shows this error:
    NETSVCS REQUIRES REPAIRS
Apparnetly, Application Management Service (AppMgmt) is missing from your netservices.
This is not related to our malware issues, just a note for your future reference.

    ===================================================================

    Uninstall Combofix:
Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start>"Start search"]
    Type in:
    Combofix /Uninstall
Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall"
Click OK (Vista users - press Enter).
    Restart computer.

    ===============================================================.

    Print these instructions out.

NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe

***VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure, you update Malwarebytes before running the scans.***

STEP 1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    * Post the log back here.

The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    RESTART COMPUTER!

    STEP 2.
    Post fresh HijackThis log.
NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator
Do NOT attempt to "fix" anything!

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

    1. Disable your active antivirus program.
    2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
    3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
    4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
    5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases

    6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
    7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
    8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
    9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

Post fresh HijackThis log as well.
