Shutting down
I bought an Asus P5Qpl-AM motherboard and 1GB PC2-5300 CLS ram.
I installed it correctly, double checking everything and then installed the IDE HD as master and DVD as slave.
I plugged in the monitor to the on board video, keyboard & mouse.
It will boot to POST, then to the BIOS for setup and then it shuts off.
The only thing on the board not new is the 3.0 ghz Intel chip (including heatsink) from my old machine (it was a used board anyway).
Any help?

Possible overheating. Double check that the heatsink is mounted properly, and that the thermal compound is properly applied.

OK, laid the paste on a bit thicker... seems to be working.
Thanks

Paper thin is all it takes.

Agreed. Too thick can make things worse. I spread it out with the edge of a credit card so that it's about the thickness of a layer of paint, no more than that.
Nick.
