    tune guitar through computer problems

Hello, I lent my guitar tuner to a friend so he can try and tune his mums acoustic guitar using the Mic.

But I now have found that my guitar is out of tune. So I downloaded a trial version of In-Tune and plugged the guitar into the computers input. I get sound from the speakers when I play a string but In-tune doesn't recognise it. So I then tried enable tuner. The software still can't recongnise the sound even though the computer can.

Any ideas? I have the settings setup properly i think. Input not mic etc. But i've tried both.

It looks like a pretty straightforward setup. The tuner should see the guitar if it's plugged into the mic input and it's recognized by the computer (as you say it is).

Try boosting the mic signal input in the advanced options of your sound card mixer to see if a stronger signal makes a difference. Also worth trying as a test if you can is plug a mic into the PC and see if the tuner recognizes a sung or acoustically played note.

Also double check that the pitch range is set properly. I'm not sure how the software is set up by default but usually a guitar tuner would be set up for A 440 as the center frequency range set. Try some other ranges above and below that to see if it makes a difference.

Ok thanks for that. For some reason my mic was muted but the line in isn't. I guess it must be the same thing some how cause when I unticked the mic and turned up its volume it worked. Actulay i've just looked at the front of my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Mic is the same as Line. DOH! lol

    Thanks for your help.
BTW I like your kitten page!
