[RESOLVED] How do I setup this network???
My main computer is a Gateway Pent.III/550 running Win98SE with 512 of RAM.Fat32 File system.
I have a Netgear DG834GT ADSL Modem Router connected by Ethernet cable
to a Netgear Ethernet PCI card in the computer.
Networked is a Netgear WGT634U Wireless Router which is connected to a Topfield Television PVR Set top Box by USB cable. This setup is used to update the Television Program. All works well but is a waste of resources as I only update twice a week, but it is a convienience for the Board of Control.(otherwise known as 'She who must be obeyed').
However it now appears that I will be confined to bed for some time in the future and would not be able to access my computer setup at all.
To overcome this I propose purchasing a Laptop computer with wireless built in so that I can overcome my isolation. This will be running Win XP.File system will most likely be NTFS but no sure.
My question is will An XP laptop work with the main Win98SE computer via the wireless router?
What is the easiest way to achieve what I need to do?

You should have no problems including a laptop in that sort of setup. You should be able to share directories on the current PC and access them from the new laptop out of the box, or you can install some sort of remote control software on the PC and use the laptop to actually control the PC.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.

My personal preference for controlling old Windows 9x machines on a LAN is TightVNC.

Many Thanks Tuttle and SpywareDr for the information and the links.
Now to buy my Laptop. My AST and Viao (286 and 386) have long been in the dustbin.
Both were a joy to me when I first acquired them. But I have preferred the Desktop.
However at 81 I must now prepare for the future.
