Boot Failure: System Halted - HELP!!

Hi

I have a 1.7 GHZ P4, 256 RAM, 40GB HD running ME and yesterday I got a meesage on a black screen saying Boot Failure: System Halted. I rebooted using an ME boot disk and wasn't able to find the HD - I also went into the BIOS and had the same problem. Assuming the HD had failed, I have now purchased and fitted a new 40GB HD and am getting the same message!!!!

Anyone any ideas what else the problem could be?

Pulling my hair out here...

Sound like it could be a controller failure. Have you tried disconnecting all other drives and hooking up the drive to the secondary/alternate controller...?

Test with another ATA cable...
