Windows 95 networked with Windows 98

You have two computers in your house on two different floors. One running 98 the other running 95. they have the same internet service provider and they are currently connected to the same phone line. You are a bit cheap and do not want to buy the home phineline networking kit. Is there aother way to connect the tow computers using their modems?

You can but if you want to transfer files, etc, it's going to be very slow, much slower than a network connection. Install dialup networking on both and dialup server on the one you want to act as server. On the other one, create a dialup networking connection to the server and there you are.
    Good luck.

But what if you only have one telephone line?

Uhmm, use call waiting. j/k...I have no clue. I wouldn't have a guess other than to just get the 2 NICs and a crossover, you can find NICs for $30/each and a crossover is gonna be maybe $15 for a long one since you're on 2 diff floors. I can't imagine doing a direct cable connection with that distance but maybe someone else can make a suggestion. Sorry.
