    Copying hd to hd

I am wanting to put a 10gig fujitsu into a HP with a 2 or 3 gig HD in it. I guess I mean replace the small one with the larger one. What is the best and easiest software to use to transfer the eitire system from one hd to the other. She doesn't want to loose any of the stuff thats on there now and has no way to back up. I thought about ghost but thought it would be a good idea to ask here since i have never done this before.

Ghost, Drive Image, Partition Magic, and even DOS will work just fine...

I recommend using Ghost or PM...

I found Partition Magic easy to work with when I performed that same task..

...but course it's all up to you to choose

The above recommendations are good, but first I would consider a drive very much larger than 10 GB.

Thanks for all the replies. I just got PM a day or two ago and didn't know it would do it so I guess I will go that way. And the reason we are going to a 10 gig and not bigger is because the hd was given to this lady when someone else upgraded and it is probably more than she will ever need no more than she does on the computer. Thanks again for the replies.

If you have a OS on the new drive can't you just set the old hard drive as a slave and copy the data over to the new? I need to do the same thing for my mother-inlaw. I've already loaded XP on the new drive of an old Dell Im giving her. I just want to move the data.

C: is the new hard drive and D: is the old.

       xcopy d:\*.* c: /r/i/c/h/k/e/y/s

That's it. When XCOPY is done, reboot off of C:.

Thank you for the reply Vernon. I did a search on xcopy to expand my knowledge and came across this http://www.pcguide.com/art/xcopy-c.html

It says xcopy does not copy the short file name to the registry correctly. Take alook if you can and let me know what you think. This might not aply to XP. Im going from a 98 HDD to the new XP HDD.

    Thanks in advance.
