Degree Symbol in Notepad
Is it possible to create the degree symbol in notepad. It seems a bit awkward to type 97 degrees etc. I know how to do it with superscript in Word, but I use notepad for quick notes and it would be helpful.

The degree symbol is found fx. in the "symbol" character set (try using the "character map" tool build into windows).
Locate the degree symbol (in Character Map) and click on it. Next click "copy" - you have now stored the symbol in your clipboard.
When you return to Notepad you can now insert this symbol simply by placing the cursor where you want it, open the edit-menu and selecting "paste" - that's all.
You can do this with any character/symbol found in any character set displayed in the character map tool.

When you select a character in Character Map a key combination is shown at lower right of the Map window. For example, Alt + 0176 produces the degree symbol (be sure Num Lock is on and you use the numeric keypad instead of the numbers above the alpha keys).
If your memory is as bad as mine you can't remember many of the codes (if any) but if there are symbols you use frequently note their key combinations on a Post-It and stick it on the monitor. Much faster to use than copy/paste from the Map.

PC
Hold down the Alt key, and on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard, type 0176 or Alt+ 248
