    Problem saving Word Pad files

When I write a file in WORD PAD and save it, it Automatically gets saved in
Microsoft Word ( Office 2000 ). As I only need MS Word to read some files
occasionally emailed to me, how can I prevent MS Word from saving all my
    Word Pad files. Thank you

If I understand your correctly you do not want Wordpad to save your file(document) as a Word file with a .doc extension. If this is the case when you select "save as" go to the bottom of the dialoge box to "save as type" and select "text document" and this will use a file extension of .txt instead of .doc - be careful because much of your formatting in the sense of bold, italic etc will be lost. This only saves the text as flat ascii with out special characters.

As a point of clarification, Word PAD is like a very trimmed down version of MS Word.
When you save your file from Wordpad, it defaults to saving in "*.doc" format. Your PC will have *.doc files associated with Word 2000 so the files will display the Word 2000 icon as that is the default program for opening *.doc files.
It is not saved in Word 2000 format so you will still be able to open them with Word PAD should you so desire.
