I understand the problem of too many fonts in Windows 95/98 and breaking the registry due to the 64K key limit. The problem I am try to overcome is fixing this problem without running a Windows Setup. What happens is that even after reducing the number of fonts down to 350, I still find that some of the fonts installed do not appear in the fonts drop down in various apps. This means the registry is still broke. I know running a Windows setup will fix this, but due to the many times I have to deal with this problem, (I work in Support) I'm looking for an alternative registry fixing fix.
I don't know if you have Nuts and Bolts, but if you do run the PC Checkup with Fonts selected and it should come up with all the unregistered fonts and you can fix it like that. I would think that Norton Utilities would have a similar option too. Working in support I imagine you have some sort of diagnostic/repair software of that nature.

You would think I'd have some such thing, but this support is for end users on the phone, and I wouldn't want to impose some poor soul to this kind of software. (Sorry, I hate Norton Utilities, First Aid, Norton Crash Guard ^H^H^H^H^H and the like, causes more probs than they solve). Is there not a registry fix using Windows tools / Dos or something similar.
Copy your font folder to a C:\TMP_FONT folder. Go to Control|Fonts and uninstall/delete everything except the *.FON files and Arial, Courier, and Times from the *.TTF's. Run Microsoft Regclean. Go back to Control|Fonts and install the fonts you copied to TMP_FONT.
Similar to what I just found here. I was just entering this when my computer went unstable and had to hard boot.
I actually just downloaded "QualiType "SE" Software for Windows 95" to check it out. I only have a measly 200 fonts installed, but that's enough for my use.

Results - QualiType "SE" (SE meaning limited demo) On and Off my computer within 30 minutes. Font Sentry is buggy and the demo limitations make it useless.

Many thanks. I will be looking for a PC to break and test this out. This was my first question is this forum. Must say I'm impressed with the speed of response.
