Where should I put pcmcia exe in windows 3.1

I have an IBM Ambra laptop that has a pcmcia slot that I would like to use for a modem to retrieve email. I have the necessary drivers for the pcmcia slot but I don't know where to put them in windows 3.1 so that they will work. IBM's website supplied me with the drivers but no instructions on how or where to put them. Please help me.

    Hi,
    Just guessing here....
If the driver file has an *.exe extension, then put it wherever you want but point to it in your autoexec.bat file. e.g if you put it in a directory titled pcmcia, you would put the line: C:\pcmcia\pcmcia.exe in your autoexec.bat file.
Also, could it be that pcmcia.exe is an installation program, and you need to run it to install the drivers?
Try running it in DOS and see what happens.

I also did a search here on the forum and found a couple pages about pcmcia slot stuff. Take a look for yourself, you may find your answer.

    Others will have more ideas.
    Good Luck,
    Dave

Thanks, Dave. I will put a line in autoexec.bat and see if that works. I have tried running the exe in both DOS and Windows and it will not so I think you might be on the right track here.

    Just a quick question...Why won't it work?
What is the exact problem you get when trying to run the file?

When I try to run the exe in windows I get a message saying that this program cannot run in windows environment or something close to that. When I try to run the exe in DOS I get a window flashing for a second and then it dumps me back to the c prompt. (It's been awhile since I did this, so might be a little fuzzy on it)

    Thanks for your interest
    Scott
