    Undeletable file in recycle bin!

When I right click on recycle bin and click on "empty recycle bin now", a dialogue box says"Are you sure you want to delete these 2 files ?". I say "Yes" and another dialogue box pops up:
    "Cannot remove folder ftp.rsc.com
    Cannot find specified file
Make sure you specify the correct path & name"

What the heck! How can I specify the path when its already in the recycle bin? And why cant it delete the files it offers for deletion in the first place? Any ideas NEone

Did you put the file in the recycle bin? If so what is it? Guess you could always restore it to where it was and then delete it without putting it in the recycle bin.

    From the windows help file:

To permanently remove files when you delete them

On the desktop, right-click the Recycle Bin, and then click Properties.
Select the Do not move files to the Recycle Bin check box.
If this check box is selected, you will be unable to recover any files you delete.

    Notes

If you want to use different settings for different drives, click Configure drives independently on the Global tab, and then click a drive tab to change settings for a particular drive.
If you want to use the same settings for all drives, click Use one setting for all drives.

OOPS, this may not work in XP, got it off my ME system.

Jubal, on exploring Recycle bin, there are no files to be seen in it! So theres no question of restoring them.
Yet when I right click on the bin and and then on "Empty recycle bin", it actually offers to delete 2 files! But when I say OK it says it cant find the file. Dont make sense this.
The dsektop icon does show that the bin is not empty. View all hidden files option is enabled as well.

    Hi there,
I had the same problem with my ME system in the past, I did not know how to fix it so that re-installed the OS (not reformat), I guess if no solution comes up, you may like to try reinstalling XP. This also helps to clean-up your system and re-claim hundreds of MB wasted space.

    Good Luck

yuck.. i hate having problems like this because "what if its spyware"? especially when concerned with ftp'ing

i love to format and reinstall everything... NOT.. it likes me!

btw, if you hold down the right ****f key while deleting a file, you bypass the recycle bin

Please let us know what you do.

How about rebooting the system. Maybe it will correct itself. Just a guess! Maybe the system and recycle bin didn't communicate properly..

Corner pocket is right in my books. This happens quiet often, a simple reboot normally puts the trash can in order.

Try going to Folder Options and select to show all hidden files and folder. Then see if you can see any files in the Recycle Bin. You may also try to see if it'll delete within Safe Mode.

Being concerned with Spyware www.lavasoftusa.com download Ad-aware, it should rid you of any spyware present on your system. HTH

You could go to safe mode and delete it from there. It has worked for me several times.

Adaware cleaning done. Problem still persists.
    Cold Reboot did not work.
Safe mode and delete did not work.
Reinstalled XP over XP - did not work!!
Recycle bin icon still shows it contains something, offers to delete 2 files, but then retreats by saying it cant find the files.
Whats the bloomin' logic in the OS behind something like this? Why cant the bin see what it thinks its got!

This should help you fix it. Let us know if you get the problem fixed and how, it may help others.

Not meaning to put the cat amoungst the pidgeons here but I am sure I read somewhere that there is a hoax virus or something like that that sits in your recycle bin and will not delete causing the user to loose hair trying to get rid of it.

    Something very curious indeed.
For various other reasons I had to reformat partition 1(bearing my OS), and reinstall XP.
Guess what? The problem still persists!!!!

Its not a virus because I recognise the file as one I deleted myself.
Basically I installed Smart FTP on my partition 2 and tried to connect to a site called ftp.rsc.com. It failed to connect and I didnt like the FTP program anyway. I deleted it from control panel to recycle bin.
The bin now thinks there are 2 files , one called ftp.rsc.com, which it offers for deletion during the "empty recycle bin" command, but then cant find the files.
Is it therefore possible that only a format of partition 2 will clear the problem although I am loathe to do this.

geewhiz, seems like you pc has a mind of it's own

Could there be a hidden culprit in the registry that references to these files. Try a search of the FTP program name you installed/removed in the registry...see if anything is lingering around....

again this is just a thought....best of luck on getting rid of your problem!
