    NT Migration

I have PDC install with Windows NT 4.0. and then I install another servers using Windows 2000 and I would like to activate the active directory. It came up with that Windows 2000 cannot authenticate with Win NT 4.0 PDC. What should I do?

    Hi there,
upgrade your PDC to Windows 2000 first, if you want to use ADS in your domain - this would be the best choice.
ADS will run in mixed-mode, if you still have more NT4 machines this is essential.
In mixed-mode the upgraded Windows 2000 Server will act as a PDC emulator for the other NT4 machines...
    cu,

P.S.: You may have a look at The Domain Migration Cookbook from MS for indepth infos:

    Hi earfun,

am not sure what you mean with scratch disk... if you mean second (i.e. data disk) then yes.
Basically you need to boot your NT server, insert the CD and doubleclick the "winnt32.exe" (or wait for CD autorun).

As always : be sure to have a backup of your NT server machine before doing that and read all dialog screens when executing winnt32.exe.
Unfortunately it is easy to destroy an installation...
    Good luck,
    -Tom
