Office 97 problems - Word bombs

I just installed Office 97 on a new computer, and just about every time I start Word, it bombs with an invalid page fault error... all the other apps work fine. Any ideas?

Office 97 is a very stubborn program to install. It took me 3 installs to get it to work right. Microsoft has released a SR1 and SR2 patch which fixes many of the problems. However, the patches themselves are troublesome to install. Microsoft is offering to registered users the patch on a cdrom free. Now for your immediate problem, try just reinstalling word, this may fix the problem.

If not, then completely reinstall Office 97 but before you do , do the following:

1. Load just the standard VGA driver (video drivers can sometimes interfer with program installations.

2. Disable any virus programs you have.

Then reinstall Office 97.

The SR2 OFFICE update patch has been withdrawn BY MS due to install probs. SR1 still available. may re-release SR2 in a few wks.
