    PDC Problem

I think I have a major problem here. This is the scenario. Our setup here 1 PDC, 1 BDC and 3 Servers all under one domain.

Last week the hard drive on the PDC failed and our backup did not restore properly so we reinstalled NT on the same computer and made it a PDC. I FORGOT TO PROMOTE OUR BDC TO A PDC!!! Now I can't synchronize the domain because the BDC does not recognize the PDC because the SID has changed.

What can I do make the either the BDC recognize this "new PDC" or make one of the stand alone servers become a BDC to recognize this "new PDC"? Or are there any other suggestions?

    thank you

    Winston

    Hi there,
I believe you should be able to recover. Shutdown (turn OFF) the crashed PDC that you re-installed NT on. Go back to your BDC and run servermanager to promote it to PDC. When its already a PDC, power of the crashed original PDC and re-install and set up as a BDC. Once everything is sync, you have to option to demote the PDC back to being a BDC orginally and promote the repaired PDC to PDC.

    Hi ntdude!

After I promote the BDC to a PDC and then I power back on the initial PDC, could I just demote it to a BDC instead of re-installing?

By re-installing, you mean to reinstall Windows NT overtop the existing install?

    Thanks,
    Winston

Hmmmm... How would I configure the existing BDC to recognize the NEW PDC?
