Mmtask / WsocketResolveHost:Cannot convert host address 'irc.webbernet.net'
Everytime I connect to the net I receive this in as an error window----
Mmtask
connect:WsocketResolveHost:Cannot convert host address 'irc.webbernet.net'
I dont know why i keep getting this it doesn't cause any problems (as far as i know)it's annoying can anyone help?
I'm running Win 98 SE / IE 5.5 / 56k modem
I have discovered that webbernet is an ISP but I've never subscribed to them, and never had them as my homepage.

Read this: http://www.securiteam.com/securitynews/2SUQ4PPRPU.html
You may have a trojan. Download a trial version of the The Cleaner : http://www.moosoft.com/intro.php
Update with Moolive after DL, and deepscan your drives.
Maybe afterwards scan on line at Trend Micro House Call as well
Good luck, Tony

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I RUN NORTON AV 2001 AND HAVE DONE FOR SOME TIME BUT I TRIED EVERYTHING YOU SAID AND I APPEAR TO BE TROJAN/VIRUS FREE. ONE THING I HAVE FOUND THAT IF I DOUBLE-CLICK ON MMTASK TSK IN THE SYSTEM FILE I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE:
MICROSOFT CONNECTION MANAGER
THE SERVICE PROFILE IS DAMAGED. RE-INSTALL THE SERVICE PROFILE
WOULD THIS BE CONNECTED TO MY PROBLEM? DO YOU THINK IT WISE FOR ME TO JUST RE-INSTALL WINDOWS?

Glad to hear a trojan isn't the cause.
The two isues don't seem to me to be related.
Take a look at the following MS Article: The Service Profile is damaged. Re-install the service profile
Good luck, Tony

I checked out the link but it only referred to the installation/uninstallation of MSN, but again thanks for your input.
What I have found is that if I disable Mmtask.exe (multitask) in msconfig startup the problem does go away, what i think i'll do is run it like this and if any other problems arise i'll enable it again and worry about resolving it then. Thanks again.
