How do I know if there's data on the disk

We've seen the message: 'You have to format the disk' when it doesn't need formatting and it's got data on it.

I have a WD 2 TB drive that came out of a My Book, Disk Manager says, 'Unallocated' but how can I be sure?

    Thanks - rev

If it says Unallocated and you had data on it, check out the following link:

Otherwise, if there is nothing you need on it, the simple fix is to create a partition and format it.

You could also try booting to a Linux boot disc (or Parted Magic on UBCD5), and see if it can recognize the partitions.

What were you doing with the drive prior to getting the unallocated status?
