    Drive letters

Do drive letters appear based on the connection sequence in the box or based entirely on their position in the alphabet?

    I have:
    C:
    D: DVD
    G: Data
    J: Work

    I want:
    C:
    D: DVD
    E: Work
    F: Data

Do I move the connectors or change the drive letters?

And why is a drive letter unavailable that hasn't been used?

    Thanks - rev

Drive letters are listed alphabetically. Moving the connectors won't change them. You would need to reassign the drive letters.

I normally assign a high letter like R: to the optical drives.

    Which drive letter is unavailable?

E is not in the list.

How do I know if a program depends on a drive letter?

Did you use E: for a flash drive or something?

You could try DriveLetterView to see the drive letter assignments:

I don't know of a way to easily find out which apps depend on which drive letter.
