    Web Cam

    Gentlemen,

I am considering entering the 21st century by buying a USB web cam. Don't intend to spend much as it will only have limited use. But am getting confused by the various spec.

640 x 480 seems about normal, but how does that look on a 24" screen?

The alternative specs are considerably higher resolution but what is the difference between dynamic and static?

As examples, of these, is one better than the other?

Or do you have a better recommendation?

Thanks, toodle pip and stay safe.

    Rex

Where are you getting that 640x480 spec? No webcam made in the last 10 years would have that low a resolution. The first link you posted says 5 megapixel and 1080P.

Those all look like Chineseium webcams.

Check these reviews for something that might be a little less problematic:

I would guess that you are absolutely correct with Chinese made products. But I would also assume that even the brand named products are mad in China.

Just checking the Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000; seems to be mostly available in the US at a cost of around £60-£80 plus an excessive amount of postage.

The cameras I have been looking at to get a feel for the products, frequently say "Dynamic resolution:640 * 480 " What does this actually mean when they also state in the eBay headline 720HD?

640x480 would not be anywhere near 720P, and would be junk. That may be a bad translation of a Chinese manual. You could try one of the really cheap Chineseium units. No guarantees though. Remember to disinfect it first. I would think there has to be a UK supplier of decent quality webcams available. Someone has to have a Logitech unit somewhere.

Thanks for your reply. Will look into a virus free 720p Chinese model. Have to ensure that I prop up their economy!
