Have to turn the machine on twice
If I turn the monitor on first, then the computer, I get no signal/display
If I turn the computer on first and then the monitor, I get no signal/display
However, if I turn the computer on, crash it and turn it on again, then I get the display. It's the only way to get a display. That's regardless of the monitor status, it can be off or on. If it's off the display is there when I turn it on.
I can't be certain but I think this behavior started after updating the Intel driver for the onboard graphics.
Anyone have a clue?
Thanks - rev

That sounds like a the computer does not detect a monitor, so it does not know which video output is active. The monitor does not detect video, so instead of continuing to check, it just shuts down.

Did you try a different monitor?

Thanks to both of you! Before I could try a different monitor, the problem corrected itself. Don't ask me how, maybe it was one of those mysterious updates that changed my desktop but the problem no longer exists. I do have to have the monitor on first though.
