    c mos battery?

    hi all , where would one find the c mos battery in a compac 5900z? and also ,do i need to copy my c mos settings when i change the battery? it seems my clock is slowng down a couple minutes a month?thnaks = newme.

    Thanks JAL. Sorry newme, if you read my post. I was sidetracked and got in a hurry. Your CMOS Battery may not necessarily be the problem. Sometimes Antivirus or other programs may be the cause of a clock slowdown.

    Thanks harris518, ill remember the antivirus, just incase in the futre ,could anyone tell me where and how to replace the cmos battery in the future=compaq 5900z. thanks =newme

    Hi there,

    Before you change your battery you need to keep your bios powered with an external battery (two normal AA batteries will do), connect them on the jumpers beside your bios battery. Then you will be able to change the battery w/o loosing your bios settings.

    And it is true that your clock problem might not be because of your battery. Mine has gone wild a few times for no reason. Remember that the battery powering your bios is suppose to be good for a MINIMUM of five years, so unless you have a 486 or that the battery is defective, I doubt that this is the source of your problem.
