    Computer Will Not Shut Down

I have a Windows 7 computer and every time I try to shut it down this blue screen pops up for just a few seconds before my computer automatically restarts. I can't read it in that amount of time, but it says something about updates, which I know I don't get anymore, and something about disabling BIOS Memory. I have no clue what I'm doing. Please help.

It also says something about using safe mode to re-install components.

You might be able to use BlueScreenView to give you some additional information on the error. Then we might be able to diagnose the issue and find a fix.

How long ago did this start happening? You might also be able to use System Restore to go back to a date when everything was working.

What in particular should I be looking at or need to post? It's really confusing. The bug check string says System Thread Exception Not Handled.

I don't understand the steps on the blue screen if you could maybe walk me through. I haven't installed any new hardware or software though. It just started last night out of the blue when I went to shut down for the night.

It just created a new system restore point this morning when I used revo to uninstall and reinstall Avast so I could run a full system scan. I don't know what to do now. I'm so worried.

It could be related to this newly discovered problem discussed here:

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...cs-how-to-fix/

If you have Adobe software installed on the laptop it points to a new Adobe update being the problem.

All I have is Acrobat and Flash Player. I don't know if those would make a difference or should be disabled. I only have Windows 7 personal, not the ones listed in the article.

    Try this: https://www.repairwin.com/how-to-ana...luescreenview/

Another place to check is Event Viewer. See if there are any error messages around the time you shut down.

These are the top things in both of the blue screen view 020920-15225-01.dmp 2/9/2020 11:54:17 AM SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x1000007e ffffffff`c0000005 fffff800`035db5ab fffff880`0b086798 fffff880`0b086000 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+3d45ab NT Kernel & System Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Microsoft Corporation 6.1.7601.24545 (win7sp1_ldr_escrow.200102-1707) x64 ntoskrnl.exe+3d45ab C:\windows\Minidump\020920-15225-01.dmp 4 15 7601 262,144 2/9/2020 11:55:03 AM AND ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+21bc20 fffff800`03207000 fffff800`037e4000 0x005dd000 0x5e0ead5e 1/2/2020 8:56:30 PM Microsoft® Windows® Operating System NT Kernel & System 6.1.7601.24545 (win7sp1_ldr_escrow.200102-1707) Microsoft Corporation C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe I tried googling it, but it all seems like Greek. I can't understand what I'm supposed to do or what happened. I'm not tech savvy at all. I checked for errors and there weren't any. I am, I found out, able to go to a further back restore point, but wanted to see what the next step I should take is before I do anything that might make it worse.

I'm not getting the particular error message mentioned in the Adobe article. I don't have Adobe Genuine Monitor Service according to the list.

It just popped up and told me that Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown if that means anything, but when I got that before nothing changed.

Did you try the temp workaround they suggested?

Hit ctrl/alt/del and use the red shutdown button on the lower right corner..

    More here...

    https://borncity.com/win/2020/02/08/...tart-feb-2020/

Disabling Adobe Genuine Monitor Service will fix the problem...

    1. Type services.msc within the start menu’s search bar and right click to the entry services.msc shown within the start menu search results.

    2. Use the context menu Run as administrator and confirm the UAC prompt to launch the services manager.

    3. Search for the service Adobe Genuine Monitor Service and try to change the service status (you can stop or disable the service or set it’s start option).
