App crash with ucrtbase.dll
Sonar (digital audio) was the app that crashed and ucrtbase.dll was the faulting module. I tried registering the .dll but I got 'Entry point not found.'
Anyone know what that file does?
Thanks - rev
PS: I have 12 versions of that file on my system in different places.

I haven't read your links yet but are you suggesting the file gets loaded because it's a component of C++ but may not be in use by whatever I'm using? That's a cool idea, I wouldn't have thought of that. That suggests I could disable it and nothing would suffer. Personally, I think the culprit is the NVIDIA display driver. I can smell it, I've had nothing but problems with it and it was recently updated.
All my fans are good and the side of the box is open, I don't think it's heat related, HD Tune says 40 degrees to TJ max. I'm going to try rolling back the driver in Safe Mode. Then I'll get back to you about ucrtbase.dll.

Here's what I found and what I've done:
These are the stability errors found by reimage repair:
perfnet 114
office software protection platform 18
sonarpdr.exe 2
dbxsvc 2
vss 2
I know what Sonarpdr.exe is but I have no idea what the others are or what they do. I also found DCOM errors in Event Viewer.
I was able to update the nvidia driver which surprised me because I thought that had just been done. I tried updating most of the stuff listed in Device Manager but 'you already have the latest' was the result. Maybe I was right about the nvidia driver. I'm beginning to think that error 124 is a false positive in my case because if it was a genuine hardware problem like HDD or processor, why does the machine stay up in Safe Mode? It's been running for a couple of hours now whereas before I would get the 124 BSOD on bootup.
I'm about to boot from USB and run MS diagnostics and recovery.
sfc /scannow found nothing wrong

The machine stayed up for 7 hours in Safe Mode so I'm convinced the problem is not hardware. Then it stayed up another 5 hours in normal mode.
I can't prove it was the nvidia driver but:
sfc /scannow - found nothing
MBAM - found nothing
MS Security Essentials - found nothing
If nothing happens tomorrow, I'll call this one solved.
