[RESOLVED] USB mouse and keyboard stops working
The PC makes an error sound and mouse and keyboard stops working, sometimes after a few seconds the error sounds and it starts working again, this happens numerous times and then does not start working. I have to reboot the system again to get the system on again.
I ran event viewer-- Here is a partial listing

I downloaded and made a UBCD and tried to run it, but when it opens to choosing what to test, I am NOT able to scroll down to the various options using either the keyboard or mouse.
What can I do now. While I was writing this post the mouse and keyboard stopped and restarted 3 times.
Please help
Thanks
Geoff S

If it's a wireless mouse/keyboard combo try using a different USB port for the wireless dongle. Could be the current port is dirty. Sometimes taking out and reseating the dongle a few times helps by cleaning the corrosion.
VirtualDr email notices are not working.
Check back regularly for responses.

NO, it is a wired mouse and keyboard plugged into two separate USB ports on the PC, The PC has been idle since my last post and the mouse and keyboard are still working as I write.

What is the make/model of the motherboard? I see a lot of MEIx64 errors. Have you updated the Intel Management Engine Interface drivers?

You can start by looking up drivers at the HP website. Otherwise, you'd need to look up the chipset info and check the Intel website.

Sprayed some CRC contact cleaner on both the usb mouse cable and the usb port, pushed the cable in and out a few times, the problem seems to have gone away.
Thanks for all your help.
