Best mobo and processor for digital audio

I've been using an Asus P6T with i7 975 Intel 3.33 processor, 16 RAM and 5 TB for a few years and I have no complaints at all, but it's getting old and I'm out of touch with what's out there. Any suggestions?

    Thanks - rev

    Latest Processor links:

Those are probably overkill for your needs however.

Below is a link to a selection of the latest Intel and AMD chips, ordered by ratings:

(AMD Ryzen and Intel i7 and i9)

Intel motherboards (LGA 2066 and LGA 1151 (300 series), ordered by ratings:

    AMD motherboards:

A price range that you are looking at would be helpful for further recommendations.

I have been using ASRock motherboards for my systems.

Wow! I can't claim to understand all that but wow! 18 cores... I would love something that's way in excess of my needs but budget smacks me down.

The processing power of the first core is more important in digital audio because, for example, if you're adding effects to an existing track, that can't be done by a different core it has to be done by the one holding the track. I'm not sure when the system decides to use the next core, that probably depends on the DAW and how it defines multi-threading.

What sort of budget range are you working with?

I can probably go to $800 on the processor, mobo and memory $400? I don't know what else I'd need. I already have a good Thermaltake case.

Power supply, video card, and drives (HD, CD/DVD, etc.) would be possible other items.
