Computer randomly restarts

My large EHD is a Fantom and the small one is a JMicron Tech. That last one was a hard drive from a new laptop I bought when I had the old one put in (as it was larger as it had been upgraded).

Those are the enclosures, not the actual hard drives. You'd need to know the actual hard drive manufacturer so you can run the appropriate diags.

For EventViewer.... wow!!!! I cannot count how many errors there are even in the last hour (nothing since a half hour). Actually, it shows 25K error events!

Interestingly, up until Sept 25 at 12:53, it was showing error on the DR3.

After there was a Critical error at 12:58 showing "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." That might correspond to the last reboot.

And a few seconds later "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007a (0xfffff6fc400070c0, 0xffffffffc000000e, 0x000008008a89a860, 0xfffff88000e18630). A dump was saved in: C:\windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 092519-41589-01."

Then, a couple of minutes later, the next errors (up to now) shows " The device, \Device\Harddisk4\DR4, has a bad block."

I had not unplugged anything in the meantime.

As for the external drives, where would I find that information?

How do I get the info on the other one without opening it?

Open Device Manager
Click the + next to Disk Drives
You should see the hard drive model numbers listed. ST = Seagate, WD = Western Digital

You could also run an app like Speccy. I'd download the "portable" version. Just unzip and run Speccy.exe, then look at the Storage section.

Try running Speccy then. Not sure why Device Manager doesn't show the actual drive info. My enclosure comes up as a ST##### and my enclosure isn't made by Seagate.. That's probably due to the manufacturer.

That is what I got with Speccy. There is no mention of Manufacturer or Model for those.

Done. The small one is a ST500LM021-1KJ152, so it is a ST!

All the SMART Status are showing PASS.

SMART is not the same thing as a surface scan. That's why you want to do a long test.

Was the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows only to determine what HD it is? Or is that to also perform checks/fixes? It does seem to show the option to run tests. Is that part of the process?

You need to run the DLG for Windows to diag the USB WD hard drives.

The link I posted was for the WINDOWS version Seatools. Again, you'd need to run Seatools for Windows to diag the USB drive.

UBCD5 would be used for INTERNAL hard drives.

I checked for Events and got another bunch of errors since I reconnected my EHD. The mention is now
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk4\DR7 during a paging operation.

So, Disk 4 again, but DR7 (no idea what that means).

However, I still didn't have a BSOD despite allllllllll those errors!

So all those tests can be done through Windows and no need to boot and go through the BIOS?
