    Skype (again!)

    What ho one and all,

Pretty sure this is the wrong forum heading, so if it needs to be re-aligned,...

Using my trusty XP SP3 and have the last version of Skype (7.36) that worked (notice the past tense) under XP installed. Don't use Skype often but the last time, a few months ago, it was fine.

Tried to use it yesterday, and again today, and I receive the weeping graphic with unable to connect, sorry, try again. As the program is not actually starting, i don't know what to do. A Google search found many article related to amending some files but as I don't know what these chances actually do, am very reluctant to run them.

Or is it just a simple MS statement, though luck kiddo, your software is soooo out of date that we have screwed you! Replace everything, including your computer or you are f***ed'

May be I should reinstall Skype?

    Grateful for any thoughts,

    Toodle pip

    Rex

Is your install of Skype set to autoupdate? If it is then do try uninstalling it then reinstalling the version that last worked.

Then set it to not autoupdate...

Launch Skype for Windows if it's not already open.
    Navigate to Tools -> Options.
Select the Advanced tab in the left pane.
Select Automatic updates in the left pane.
Click the "Turn off automatic updates" button. ...
    Click Save.
    Don't believe everything you think.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.

Don't know since it won't start. But I tend to think not as I don't like software auto-anything without my say-so.

Guess I will have to remove and reinstall.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will post back one way or another.

Thanks, or not as the case may be. Another example of software F.U!
