Resolved [RESOLVED] windows restartup down .. hangs before start up ..

So windows 10 (recent 1809 version.) . .. go to restart and when windows is shutting down, with no programs open the PC will just before the bios start screen will and stall .. escape / alt control/delete etc .. will not rescue the start up .. have to manually shut down PC with power button pressed to off for a few seconds to restart ,.,.

Have gone into safe mode/ task manager and have now shut or closed down the four programs on start up but it is shut down / restart I need to focus attention on..

    Ideas?

Have already run a register checker and malware checker.

What happens if, instead of selecting Restart, you select Shutdown? Does the computer actually shut down OK? If yes, does it restart OK when you power it back on? If this works, then a list of what is running when you try to Restart would be helpful. Note that you would need to run TaskManager and select the Process tab and select Show All Processes for this to include everything that may be affecting the Restart.

It might actually be easier to use AutoRuns (see link below) to find out what items are set to start up when Windows starts and disable any that you do not need.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...loads/autoruns

Another test that might be worthwhile would be to cold-boot the computer, wait until all of the startup programs have loaded (watch the hard drive activity indicator and wait until it is no longer blinking), then try a restart. If that fails, but a Shutdown and an power-on boot works, then that would also indicate that it is a startup program issue and AutoRuns should be able to help.

There is now a Registry edit that you can make that will activate a boot mode that shows what is happening when Windows 10 loads. No guarantee that this will show what is happening when the boot hangs, but it might. It is certainly worth a try to help diagnose the issue.

can't say over the past week what has fixed my problems .. registry scans / HD error-scans/ malware-virus scans/ or maybe even the latest 1809 update over 1803 ..

not sure.., but it appears these past few days the O/S 10 is relatively more stable ..
