    Bluescreen on boot

Anyone have any insight as to what the cause of this bluescreen may have been? I used BlueScreen View to get the data. It's only happened once recently but twice previously over six months ago.

BlueScreen's google search option doesn't really help.. each search comes up with countless different ideas.

My only physical clue this time is that my speakers were growling at me during the BSOD so perhaps the second line re a hardware error might point to the sound drivers.

Ya, that's pretty vague. Did you check Event Viewer also? It might not hurt to do a hard drive and memory test either.

Did you update/change any drivers when the problem started?

What applications were running when this happens? If it has only happened 2 or 3 times in the last 6 months, I'd say you are lucky. If have 2 Windows 7 PCs that will do this frequently if you leave them running with web browsers open.

If you had the issue daily, and your video driver was being auto-updated by Microsoft, that could be an issue.

I haven't updated any drivers in years. MS updates are set to notify only and I only allow security updates. Nothing in event viewer except the notice of the blue screen itself..

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000008, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 030219-12386-01.

No apps were running.. it was during a cold boot while entering Windows after being off a number of hours.

memtest is a good idea. I did a drive test on my SSD using Samsung's app a week ago and it was fine.

EDIT: window's mem diagnostics sez my memory is fine.

Main reason I'm wondering about this is because of the growling speakers. Never did that before and it was kind of disconcerting.

That's really strange. Maybe reinstall the audio drivers then?

I'll try that. So far though I've been through 3 or 4 reboots and all is ok. Could just be one of those anomalous Windows things. I guess so long as it doesn't start happening regularly I'll just live with it. It is, after all, an 8 year old PC (with a newish SSD) so I shouldn't complain too much lol.

Maybe you should look at the motherboard capacitors? I haven't seen that issue in a while, but it used to cause strange problems.

Yes, worth a look see. I once had a cap in an old P350 PC no-name power supply explode on me. It was as loud as a firecracker. My cat jumped two feet in the air. I might have as well.
