Macros from msword?

Hi, a friend of mine has asked me to help her to open a file. Here is what she tells me:
It is a Word Document, and every time she tryes to open it she gets a message about macros...she has saved the file to her desktop, and claims she can't open it.
Sorry that I dont have more details now (I'm at work), but if somebody knows or is familiar with this type of problem and can give me a hand, will save me time.

Tell her to right click the file at the same time she holds down the Shift key. In the menu that pops up, click on
Open withand choose WORDPAD.
